Humm... you know what? The moment an action gets a name it legitimises itself. It establishes its own validity. It opens a space for itself not only as a word but as a being. Homeschooling, in the sense that is used in the UK, is something almost unheard in Iran. Homeschooling in Iran if it happens it happens because of some religious reservatios that parents have. They look down upon education as it is. They want a purer atmosphere in the schools. But in the UK, Homeschooling is rarely, if ever, connected to religion. Well, there may be some muslims, of course, who homeschool their kids for religious reasons. Generally, however, if parents homeschool it is because they are looking for better eduction that they think they cannot find in grammer schools.
Ironically, we also have a very well-known case of homeschooling in Iran: Makhmalbaf's two daughters who left high school to be homeschooled by their father; earlier they had lost their mother in a fire incident. Defintely it cannot be the only reason why Samira Makhmalbaf recieved a Cannes Festival award as the youngest female directer, or can it?

I thought the main reason for home-schooling in Britain was that kids refused to go to school because they got bullied. It’s very sad but it’s true.
Hi shirin, nice to know it. To be honest, I do not really know how many do homeschooling because of bullying and how much have their own other personal reasons. But it is as much I could gather from the people around or tv programmes.
Hey Behrooz. Is home-schooling something you're considering doing for your own children?
I've known a few people who were/are doing it, and my impression is that it all comes down to the level of the parents' commitment... and more importantly, their ability to use the larger community as an educational resource. It can be quite wonderful... and when you end up with not only intelligent but mature "graduates," universities (at least in the States) just love them -- they generally tend to get into some of the more prestigious institutions.
I love your blog Behrooz. How long has it been on-line? Reason I ask is I am doing a ton of work in the area of western wedding favors and will probably end up starting a blog of my own. Funny how the internet brought me here when I was doing searches on western wedding favors. Oh well, I am glad it did. Keep up the great blogging and I am sure I will visit this post again!!
All I can say is WOW Behrooz. The other half and I just got back from our friends house (well her friends house) and I needed a huge break. I am working on a project right now that is based on mexican wedding favors. I have literally been on-line for 2-3 hours doing research. Even though this post really isn’t on the same page as mexican wedding favors I am certainly glad I came across your blog. There are a ton of great view points on this blog. Well I think I can here the kids screaming in the background. I put you in my internet favorites and I will certainly come back and visit. Hey Behrooz. Very nice blog :0) I just got inside from washing and waxing my truck. It is my baby. Took me 2 hours though. So I settled down into my basement and started doing some web surfing. Anyways I am in the process of grabbing my masters degree and have spent the last 6 months researching discounted wedding favors. In the midst of my surfing I landed smack dab in the middle of your blog. I hope you do not think I am intruding but I must say it is great blog. Even though this post is way off base from discounted wedding favors I found myself cruising through your blog archives for the last half hour :0) You have some nice blogging friends.
