Themla and Louise: A Wrong Answer

I just watched Thelma and Louise. No doubt the film has a serious agenda: feminism. Though I have huge problem with the way the question is raised, I think the answer to it is responsible for even more problems. Violence to condemn violence. And the film ends so sadly that the viewer is left with no option but to sympathise with the characters and even uplift them to a position of unavoidable martyrdom. It is an implausible film too.

I think the movie is more to show how sometimes things can spiral out of control. How instead of stopping after the initial incident and taking the consequences.Sometimes running away can initiate a series of events that just keep getting worse. The ending i think is more to show that the women saw no other way to escape the situation they had got themselves into.

Pink Lady: thanks for the insightful comment. I didn't see it that way. I like this perspective.

The movie could be understood in different ways but generally I don think Movies are for taking morals from. Just scenes to bring up the directors idea & be analysed by the viewer.

Yet there is no doubt on mass media power whn it comes to indoctrinating ideas.

dr o2-- well, it is as long a debate as the time when Aristotle started to disagree with his teacher Plato. Yet, as you yourself say indoctrinating ideas now seems a more fashionable view than art for art's sake. We are living in a highly politicised world, aren't we?

dr o2-- you know it is not as simple as that. Even your resisting not to take an idea is a reaction affected by that idea. It can reinforce your already trenched ideas/biases or weaken them.
